Sometimes, I find it useful to think of parts of the Old Testament like legacy code.

I’ll be reading something written/said a very long time ago and for a specific reason that wasn’t recorded and that doesn’t seem obvious to me now. In fact, looking at it from my position, time and context, it may seem ridiculous. But, it’s not it was put there for a reason, even if I don’t know what it was/is. There’s value in keeping it.

This reminds me of a lot of old code that I look at.

“Why on earth would anyone ever even consider doing that?” is a question I’ve asked of older code many times.
Typically there is (was) a good reason. Even if I don’t know it now.
Removing such code typically also leads to unforeseen problems.
